Driving a box on wheels through the “I” states

The “I” states:

  • Indiana – the roads are horrible!  Rt 80 is under construction from one end of the USA to another
  • Illinois – roads are hit or miss
  • Iowa – WIND – try that in a box on wheels.  There were wind turbines for miles.

Then Nebraska welcomed us with torrential downpours.

Yesterday we only went 381 miles in 7.5 hours – not one of our better days.  Ended up in Joliet, IL at a really nice campground at a casino.  The grounds were immaculate and we met some really nice people.   One couple was from Louisiana and were really fun.  The other couple from Illinois have a son who just opened a coffee shop in McCarthy, Alaska! We’ll be there in a few weeks so we’re going to stop in to check on him for Mom & Dad.

Today was our longest travel day – 10.5 hours and we went 467.5 miles.  Made a few rest stops along the way.  I really wanted to make it to Nebraska today.   Tonight we’re at Pine Grove RV park in Greenwood, NE.  After the torrential rains there was a beautiful sunset and lightening dancing in the clouds.

Tomorrow we’ll have a shorter day across the state and stop in Sidney to camp and spend some time in Cabella’s.  Woo hoo!

P.S. Carol made lunch AND dinner again today……

  1. Wow!!! You gals are really booking. I’ve never driven the RV more than 6 hours, I think. Of course, we are envious as you talk about McCarthy. Bon viaggio from Florence and me.
